Chief Justice Samuel J. Roberts Scholarship Applications Available

The Erie County Bar Foundation has announced the availability of applications for the Chief Justice Samuel J. Roberts Scholarship. To be considered eligible for the scholarship, the student must be (1) a resident of Erie County (PA); (2) Entering their FIRST year at an ABA accredited law school.

The scholarship program is entering its 23nd year with awards based on criteria including financial need, academic achievement and the applicant’s career statement.  All applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee comprised of Erie County Bar Foundation Trustees, members of the Erie County Bar Association (ECBA) and community leaders.

 The scholarship was instituted to honor Justice Samuel J. Roberts. During his career, Justice Roberts served as Erie County’s Assistant District Attorney; President Judge of the Orphans’ Court; Justice of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court; and as Chief Justice of Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court.

 It is to the life work and memory of Chief Justice Roberts that this scholarship is dedicated with the hope of assisting future leaders of the legal profession in accomplishing their goals.

Completed applications must be received or postmarked no later than May 31, 2014.
