Erie County Bar Association Welcomes National Radio and Television Host as Law Day Luncheon Speaker

The Erie County Bar Association's annual Law Day Luncheon is just over a month away – Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Bayfront Convention Center.  The ECBA is proud to announce that this year's keynote speaker is Michael A. Smerconish.

Michael Smerconish is an attorney, radio host, television host, newspaper columnist, and author of five books, two of which were New York Times best sellers.  Before turning to broadcasting as a full-time endeavor, Mr. Smerconish practiced law for ten years with James E. Beasley, a legendary Philadelphia trial lawyer.  Today, he is of counsel to the Philadelphia law firm of Kline & Specter, but is most often recognized for his media endeavors, particularly The Michael Smerconish Program, weekdays on Sirius XM radio, and his television show, Smerconish, airing Saturdays on CNN.  In 2009, he became the first radio host to interview President Barack Obama live from the White House.  The interview was televised live on MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News.

The timing of this year’s Law Day Luncheon could not be better, especially in light of Michael Smerconish as keynote speaker.  The luncheon will be held two days after the Pennsylvania Presidential Primary, and Mr. Smerconish is respected politically for being both connected and middle-of-the-road.  His insight and comments following the primary are highly anticipated.

The Law Day Luncheon begins at noon on April 28.  Before Mr. Smerconish's keynote, The Erie County Bar Association will be recognizing award recipients from their organization.  The Liberty Bell Award is given annually at the luncheon for a non-attorney member of the community who through community service has “strengthened the American system of freedom under law”.  The Pro Bono recognition is given to an ECBA member for his/her dedicated work on behalf of the civil legal needs of Erie's low-income community.  The Erie County Bar Assocation also awards Chancellor of the Bar, which is an honorary position given to a member who has been in practice for over 30 years and who demonstrates numerous respected and characteristics important to ECBA members.
